Market conditions in Germany
Websites in Germany need consent for non-essential cookies and tracking under Section 25 of the TDDDG and the GDPR. Larger sites therefore usually load a consent management platform before analytics and marketing scripts may start. Since a ruling by the Munich Regional Court in January 2022 on embedding Google Fonts, many operators serve their fonts from their own servers, which saves a connection to a third-party host.
What to check first on websites in Germany
Check first whether the consent banner itself becomes the largest contentful element or blocks rendering. The banner should load asynchronously and not shift the layout when it appears. Next, look at the scripts that start after consent: for visitors who agree, they run on the main thread and weigh on INP exactly when the page handles its first inputs.
