Core Web Vitals in professional services: 82 domains measured

By Christian Schreiber · Updated

Selling services means selling competence through the website. A page that stutters while it builds contradicts that message immediately, and for agencies it is noticed most.

For Core Web Vitals, professional services ranks second of 18 industries, behind public sector and non-profit, ahead of education. All medians stay within Google's thresholds, closest to the limit is LCP at 1583 ms against 2500 ms.

What usually slows professional services down

The classic case is an elaborate landing section with a video background, scroll animations and web fonts in several weights. Each of those pushes the largest contentful paint further out. A reduced hero with a static image and a preloaded font often improves LCP by more than a second.

Which professional services pages to test first

For agencies, law firms and consultancies the home page and service pages are the shop window, while case studies and team pages close the deal. Test a service page that receives search traffic and one case study with its images. Contact forms are worth a separate test if they come from a form builder plugin.

Which metric is at risk in professional services

LCP is most at risk, because hero sections with video, oversized portraits or animated headlines push the largest element back. Web fonts in several weights add to it and cause layout shifts when the text swaps font. INP is rarely the problem here unless animation libraries run on every scroll event.
